It is home to the Dead Sea which is one of the saltiest lakes in the world, and it is also has the lowest altitude. Additionally, Jordan is home to Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
Jordan’s 1 Dinar p34j banknote is a green and blue paper note. This banknote has both Arabic and English text. On the front are images of Hashemite silver coins, and Sharif Hussein ibn Ali. The back of the note displays three men riding camels with the flag of the Great Arab Revolt, Renaissance medal, and an antique compass. The watermark varies for this banknote.
Sharif Hussein ibn Ali was an Arab political leader. He held the position of Sharif and Emir of Mecca from 1908 until 1924, and King of Hejaz from 1916-1924. As a person with the title Sharif, it is said that the holder is a descendant of the prophet Muhammad. Hussein ibn Ali along with the Hashemites led the Great Arab Revolt which successful for a short period of time. Sharif Hussein ibn Ali had four sons, one of which, Abdullah, became King of Transjordan which would later become Jordan.
Great Arab Revolt was a military uprising against the Ottoman Empire between 1916 and 1918. The goal was to create a unified Arab state which Britain, Russia, and France agreed to recognize. The uprising was led by Sharif Hussein ibn Ali and the Hashemites with British military backing. The Arab Revolt was successful in removing the Ottoman Empire and creating the Arab Kingdom of Syria. However, the single unified Arab state was short-lived. The middle east was divided into mandate territories in the Sykes-Picot Agreement which was presented in 1917.
