This week we are featuring a banknote from Tajikistan. Tajikistan has four provinces and is a presidential republic. This country is in Central Asia and has a mountainous terrain. Most of Tajikistan’s electricity comes from hydroelectric power, thanks to fast-flowing streams in the mountains.

The note week are looking at is Tajikistan 200 Rubles p7a (BNB107a) 1994. This is a paper note with Tajik text. The front of the note displays the coat of arms. On the back of the note is Majlisi Oli building. The watermark for this banknote is a star pattern.

Tajikistan’s coat of arms is a modified version of the original that comes from the Soviet Union era. The crown at the center of the emblem, is also seen on the Tajik national flag. At the bottom is a book and the Pamir Mountains which are among the world’s highest mountains. Encompassing this is cotton on one side and wheat on the other. Wrapping around the wheat and cotton are banners of red, white and green.

Majlisi Oli building is Tajikistan’s parliament building. It is also called the National Assembly building. The building is located in Dousti Square which means “Friendship Square.” Majlisi Oli was built in 1940 by S. Anisimov. The building holds parliament’s 33 members of which 25 are elected to five-year terms, and 8 are appointed by the president.

This nice-looking 200 Rubles banknote is from 1994. It displays the coat of arms and Majlisi Oli building.
