The Danish 10 Kroner (1978) is an interesting note in our opinion and we wanted to learn more about the mystery lady featured on the front. We did a quick search on the mystery lady who was named Catherine Sophie Kirchoff (anyone out there know anything about her? post a comment), but after going deep into the dark fourth page of Google results we came up empty. We tried Wikipedia and still nothing. We did, however, find a fascinating article on the Common Eider which is featured on the back. The Danish Eider duck is known for its warm feathers which is used in comforters, which would have come in handy after the winter we just had in New England.

The banknote was issued April 8, 1975. Has been continuously involved since March 11, 1980 and replaced by a coin. The portrait shows Cathrine Sophie Kirchhoff, born Christensen, who was married to the State Council J. H. Kirchhoff. Portrait was painted in 1768 by Jens Juel (1745-1802). The original belongs to the National History Museum in Frederiksborg, Denmark. The eider bird is reproduced after a watercolor from 1909 “Eiderfugl, she in a beautiful suit” by the painter and the graphic artist Johannes Larsen (1867-1961)
